Beta-like cells
Insulin-producing cells form the biological component.
A research-stage vascular implant.
01The concept
BioPancrea is developing a vascular implant that combines insulin-producing beta-like cells, a supportive hydrogel, and a stent-based platform.
The aim is to investigate whether the cells can sense glucose and release insulin from within the body.
Insulin-producing cells form the biological component.
A supportive biomaterial holds the cells within the platform.
An expandable scaffold carries the implantable platform.
Together, these components form BioPancrea’s investigational artificial-pancreas concept.
02Purpose
Current diabetes management can require continuous monitoring and external insulin delivery. BioPancrea is exploring whether living insulin-producing cells could provide a more direct biological response to changing glucose levels.
The ambition is to move from external insulin delivery toward an internal, glucose-responsive system.
